Why I Became a Chiropractor

My journey into chiropractic care started long before I ever considered becoming a chiropractor.

As a child, I struggled with chronic ear infections. Over the years, I had six sets of ear tubes placed. I also spent countless hours in doctors’ offices searching for answers. My parents did everything they could to help. We visited multiple specialists, completed extensive allergy testing, and tried everything we could to prevent more infections. We even kept water out of my ears and followed every recommendation we were given. Despite all of our efforts, the ear infections continued.

By high school, I had simply learned to live with the pain. My eardrum would occasionally rupture. After years of dealing with chronic ear infections, it had become my normal.

Sports were a huge part of my life growing up, especially football. During my senior season, everything changed. In the very first game of the year, I suffered an injury that caused my right arm to go numb whenever I took a hit. I tried hiding the injury because I didn’t want to miss playing. By the second game of the season, the athletic trainers noticed something was wrong and pulled me from competition.

Over the following week, my parents and I visited multiple healthcare providers looking for answers. Most of them gave us the same news. They believed my season was over and that my dream of playing college football might be over as well.

I was devastated.

Then a friend suggested I visit his father, who happened to be a chiropractor. Until that point, I knew very little about chiropractic care. However, I was willing to try anything if it meant getting back on the field.

After only a couple of visits, the symptoms in my arm were gone. After passing the necessary evaluations, I was cleared to return to football that same week. Chiropractic care gave me the opportunity to finish my senior season and eventually continue playing football at Wheaton College.

That opportunity changed the course of my life.

Without chiropractic care, I may never have played college football. I may never have built the lifelong friendships I made there, strengthened my faith in Christ, or met the woman who would later become my wife.

An unexpected bonus came during that same period of care. For the first time in my life, my chronic ear infections stopped. As I continued my education, I learned how posture, neck function, jaw mechanics, muscle tension, and nervous system function can all influence the way the body functions as a whole.

Looking back, chiropractic care impacted my life in ways I never could have imagined. It allowed me to continue pursuing my passion for sports. It improved my quality of life and ultimately set me on the path to becoming a chiropractor.

Today, I am grateful to serve families facing their own health challenges. My hope is to help others discover the same hope, healing, and opportunity that chiropractic care provided for me.

A Family-Focused Approach to Care

At Third Coast Chiropractic, our goal is to see the entire family thrive, not families forced to choose who receives care because of financial barriers. We believe every member of the family deserves the opportunity to live a healthy, active life, and our practice is built around making that possible.

Our approach is guided by three core philosophies.

1. It’s Easier to Keep Someone Healthy Than It Is to Make Them Healthy Again

One of the greatest joys of being a chiropractor is helping people feel better when they’re hurting. However, our ultimate goal goes beyond helping people recover, we want to help them stay healthy.

Too often, people wait until pain becomes unbearable before seeking care. We believe consistent care and healthy habits can help families function at their best, allowing them to spend more time doing what they love and less time recovering from preventable problems.

2. It’s Easier to Raise Healthy Kids Than It Is to Fix Injured Adults

Many of the conditions adults struggle with begin developing years before symptoms ever appear. Poor posture, repetitive stress, sports injuries, movement dysfunction, and spinal stress often accumulate throughout childhood and adolescence.

By caring for children early, we have the opportunity to support healthy growth, proper movement, nervous system function, and lifelong habits that may reduce future problems. Rather than waiting until adulthood to manage years of dysfunction, we believe in helping children build a healthier foundation from the very beginning.

3. Health Is a Family Affair

Healthy habits are easier to build when the entire family is working toward the same goal. Parents influence their children every day through the choices they make, and children often motivate parents to prioritize their own health as well.

Unfortunately, healthcare can become expensive, leaving families feeling like they have to choose who receives care and who has to wait. We never want cost to prevent an entire family from pursuing better health. That’s why we offer affordable family membership options with unlimited care, making it easier for everyone to receive the support they need.

When health becomes a family commitment instead of an individual responsibility, families are more likely to stay consistent, encourage one another, and experience lasting results together.

Caring for Your Family Like They’re Our Own

One of my favorite parts of practicing chiropractic is caring for entire families. I enjoy getting to know each family member, understanding their individual goals, and helping them move, heal, and function at their best.

Whether you’re expecting your first baby, raising active kids, helping a teenager recover from sports injuries, or simply wanting to stay healthy as a parent, our care is tailored to your stage of life.

We accomplish this through gentle, specific, neurologically focused chiropractic care designed to support the whole family. No matter where you are in life’s journey, our mission is to help your family grow healthier together.

Training and Certifications

Providing exceptional care means never stopping the pursuit of knowledge. While chiropractic school provides an excellent foundation, Dr. Brad believes that becoming an expert in caring for families requires continued education well beyond graduation.

To better serve expecting mothers, newborns, children, and families, Dr. Brad has completed more than 400 hours of advanced postgraduate training in pregnancy, pediatric, and postpartum chiropractic care through organizations including the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA), the International Chiropractors Association (ICA), the Perfect Storm Program, and numerous additional continuing education courses.

This advanced training allows Dr. Brad to better understand the unique needs of each stage of life, provide evidence-informed chiropractic care, recognize when a condition requires additional evaluation or referral, and confidently work alongside other healthcare providers to ensure families receive the best possible care.

Dr. Brad is certified in the Webster Technique, Torque Release Technique (TRT), and through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). These specialized certifications allow him to provide gentle, specific, neurologically focused chiropractic care that supports individuals and families through pregnancy, infancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.

For Dr. Brad, continuing education is more than earning certifications. It’s a lifelong commitment to providing the highest quality care for every patient who walks through our doors.

Outside the Office

When I’m not in the office, you’ll usually find me spending time with my wife, enjoying the outdoors, or continuing to learn more about the things I’m most passionate about.

My faith, family, and community are the foundation of my life. All of which greatly influence the way I care for my patients. I believe healthcare is about far more than simply relieving pain, it’s about building relationships, serving others well, and helping families live healthier lives together.

Growing up, sports played a significant role in shaping who I am today. They continue to be one of my favorite pastimes. Whether I’m watching football, cheering on my favorite teams, or introducing kids to the sports I love. I enjoy seeing the lessons athletics teach about discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and character.

Outside of sports, I enjoy spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, and exploring Northern Michigan. Some of my favorite memories are made around a campfire, on the water, or walking through the woods with family and friends.

I’m also a bit of a gamer at heart and still enjoy getting together with friends to play classic video games whenever we can. It’s a fun way to stay connected and unwind after a busy week.

Perhaps what surprises people most is that learning has become one of my favorite hobbies. I genuinely enjoy continuing my education and regularly invest time studying the latest research and techniques in pregnancy, pediatric, postpartum, and family chiropractic care. My goal is to continually grow as a chiropractor. So I can provide the highest level of care possible for every family that trusts me with their health.

Above all, I consider it a privilege to serve the families of Traverse City. Whether I’m caring for a newborn, helping a young athlete recover from an injury, supporting an expecting mom, or helping parents stay healthy enough to keep up with their kids, I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of each family’s journey.
