Gentle Family Chiropractic Care in Traverse City
In the world of chiropractic care there are a lot of frequently asked questions. This is due to the fact that chiropractic care sometimes sounds mythical in the health care world. Those who discover the benefits of chiropractic care often sound like fanatics when they see success in something that they’ve never been able to achieve in the normal allopathic model of care with drugs, surgery, and given the answer that it is what it is.
I’ve listed several questions when get all the time in our profession that can hopefully help you and your family when looking to see if chiropractic care is right for you and your family. Choosing a chiropractor is an important decision, and it’s natural to have questions. We’ve gathered answers to many of the questions we hear every day from expecting mothers, parents, athletes, and families throughout Traverse City.
If you don’t see your question below, feel free to contact us. We’d be happy to help.
Your first appointment typically lasts 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your health history and whether additional testing is needed. During your first chiropractic visit, Dr. Brad will take the time to listen to your concerns, review your health history, and better understand your goals.
Your initial examination includes neurological scans, orthopedic testing, and other assessments to help identify the underlying cause of your concerns. If appropriate, you’ll also receive your first gentle chiropractic adjustment during this visit.
Before you leave, we’ll answer any remaining questions, discuss our recommendations, schedule your next appointment, and complete the payment for your initial examination.
Wear whatever you’re most comfortable in. During your first visit, we’ll perform neurological scans, which require changing into a gown and undressing from the waist up for accurate results.
For women, we recommend wearing a bra with a clasp rather than a sports bra. Since sports bras can interfere with the scans, they typically need to be removed, while a clasp-style bra is easier to take on and off during the examination.
We also recommend wearing comfortable shoes that stay securely on your feet, such as athletic shoes or sneakers. This helps during portions of the examination and movement assessments, while loose-fitting shoes or flip-flops may need to be removed.
Our goal is to make your visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible while ensuring we collect the most accurate information to help guide your care.
In most cases, yes. Once your health history, neurological scans, orthopedic examination, and any other necessary evaluations have been completed, you’ll typically receive your first chiropractic adjustment during your initial visit.
However, your safety always comes first. If we discover findings that require additional testing or indicate that another healthcare provider or specialist should evaluate you before beginning chiropractic care, we’ll discuss those findings with you and make the appropriate referral. Our goal is to ensure you receive the right care at the right time.
If chiropractic care is appropriate, we’ll explain our findings, answer your questions, and begin your care with a gentle, personalized adjustment tailored to your needs.
Every patient is unique, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. The frequency of your care will depend on several factors, including your health history, examination findings, personal goals, and how your body responds to chiropractic care over time.
After completing your examination and discussing your goals, Dr. Brad will provide personalized recommendations based on what he believes is truly necessary to help you achieve the best possible results. Whether your goal is recovering from an injury, supporting a healthy pregnancy, improving athletic performance, or maintaining long-term wellness, your care plan will be tailored specifically to your needs.
As your body improves, your recommendations may change. Our goal is always to provide the right amount of care, not more and not less, to help you reach and maintain your health goals.
Yes. Chiropractic care is widely considered safe during pregnancy when provided by a chiropractor trained to care for expecting mothers. As your pregnancy progresses, your body naturally undergoes changes in posture, weight distribution, ligament flexibility, and pelvic alignment. Gentle prenatal chiropractic care is designed to support these changes while helping you stay as comfortable and active as possible.
Dr. Brad has completed more than 400 hours of postgraduate education in pregnancy, pediatric, and postpartum chiropractic care and is Webster Technique Certified through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). Every adjustment is modified to match your stage of pregnancy and your individual needs.
The Webster Technique is a specialized chiropractic analysis and adjustment designed specifically for pregnancy. Its goal is to improve pelvic balance, reduce tension within the surrounding muscles and ligaments, and support the body’s natural function throughout pregnancy.
Although many people associate the Webster Technique with breech babies, its primary purpose is not to “turn” babies. Instead, it focuses on creating a balanced pelvic environment that allows your baby to move and develop with fewer physical restrictions. Many expecting mothers also find it helps improve comfort throughout pregnancy and prepares the body for labor.
Many mothers begin prenatal chiropractic care during the first trimester, while others don’t start until later in pregnancy. The best time to begin is often before significant discomfort develops. Starting care early allows your body to better adapt to the physical changes that occur throughout pregnancy while supporting healthy movement, posture, and pelvic balance.
However, it’s never too late to begin. Whether you’re newly pregnant or approaching your due date, chiropractic care can be tailored to your stage of pregnancy and your personal goals. Our focus is always on helping you enjoy a healthier, more comfortable pregnancy while preparing your body for labor and birth.
Many expecting mothers choose chiropractic care because they want to prepare their bodies for labor naturally. As pregnancy progresses, maintaining healthy movement, pelvic balance, and proper nervous system function becomes increasingly important. Gentle chiropractic care helps support your body’s ability to adapt to these changes while encouraging comfortable movement throughout pregnancy.
Although no chiropractor can guarantee a specific labor experience or outcome, many women appreciate the benefits of improved comfort, mobility, and pelvic balance leading up to delivery. Our goal is to help you feel your best so your body is better prepared for one of life’s greatest events.
Yes. Chiropractic care can be safely modified throughout all three trimesters of pregnancy. As your baby grows, your body changes significantly, so your adjustments, positioning, and techniques are adapted to keep you comfortable while providing safe, effective care.
Whether you’re experiencing early pregnancy discomfort, preparing for labor during your third trimester, or simply wanting to maintain a healthy pregnancy, your care is always personalized to your stage of pregnancy and individual needs.
Yes. Chiropractic care for newborns is extremely gentle and looks very different than the adjustments most people imagine for adults. In fact, the amount of pressure used is often compared to the pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato or gently press on your eyelid.
Birth can place significant stress on a baby’s neck, spine, and nervous system, even during routine deliveries. Gentle chiropractic care is designed to support healthy movement and nervous system function while helping babies adapt to life outside the womb.
Dr. Brad has completed more than 400 hours of postgraduate education in pediatric, pregnancy, and postpartum chiropractic care, allowing him to provide safe, gentle care specifically tailored to infants.
Every baby is different, but many parents seek chiropractic care to support their baby’s development and overall well-being. Birth itself is a physically demanding event, and even uncomplicated deliveries can place stress on a baby’s spine and nervous system.
Parents commonly bring their babies to our office because of concerns such as difficulty latching, torticollis, colic, reflux, constipation, head preference, or challenges during tummy time. Others simply want to make sure their baby is developing as well as possible from the very beginning.
Our goal is to help babies move, grow, and develop naturally while supporting healthy nervous system function.
No. Chiropractic adjustments for babies and children are gentle, specific, and always appropriate for their age and stage of development. Infants receive very light pressure, while older children receive adjustments tailored to their size, comfort, and individual needs.
Most children tolerate chiropractic care very well. In fact, many babies sleep through their adjustments, while older children often look forward to their visits. Our goal is to create a calm, welcoming environment where children feel comfortable and parents feel confident in the care their family receives.
At Third Coast Chiropractic, we care for children through every stage of development. Families commonly visit us for concerns related to torticollis, colic, breastfeeding challenges, reflux, constipation, ear infections, headaches, poor posture, growing pains, sports injuries, and movement concerns such as toe walking or W-sitting.
Every child is unique, which is why each examination is personalized to their age, development, and specific concerns. Our focus is on supporting healthy nervous system function and helping children reach their fullest potential.
Absolutely. Many parents choose chiropractic care as part of their family’s wellness routine rather than waiting for pain or injury to develop. Children experience frequent physical stress as they learn to crawl, walk, run, jump, and participate in sports and other activities.
Regular chiropractic care may help support healthy movement, posture, nervous system function, and overall development as children grow. Our goal is not simply to help children feel better when something is wrong, but to help them continue thriving as they grow.
Children can begin chiropractic care shortly after birth if appropriate. In fact, some families choose to have their newborn evaluated within the first few days of life, while others begin care later during infancy or childhood.
Because every stage of development presents different physical demands, each examination and adjustment is specifically adapted to your child’s age, size, and individual needs. Whether your child is a newborn, toddler, school-aged child, or teenager, our goal is to provide gentle, personalized care that supports healthy growth and development.
Yes. Many young athletes receive chiropractic care to help them move more efficiently, recover after activity, and reduce stress on their bodies throughout the sports season. Healthy movement, balance, flexibility, and nervous system function all play an important role in athletic performance.
Whether your child participates in football, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, running, or another sport, chiropractic care can be part of an overall approach to supporting their health and keeping them active throughout the season.

Absolutely. We designed our office with families in mind. We understand that bringing children to appointments can sometimes be challenging, which is why we’ve created a welcoming environment where kids can feel comfortable while parents receive care.
Our dedicated kids’ play area helps keep little ones entertained, making family appointments easier and more enjoyable. We love caring for entire families and strive to create an office where patients of every age feel at home.
At Third Coast Chiropractic, we have chosen not to bill insurance directly. This decision allows us to focus on providing personalized, patient-centered care rather than allowing insurance companies to dictate the type, frequency, or length of your care.
Many insurance plans place limitations on chiropractic coverage, regardless of what your doctor believes is best for your health. By operating outside of the insurance model, we’re able to recommend care based solely on your individual needs and health goals.
If your insurance plan offers out-of-network chiropractic benefits, we’re happy to provide you with a detailed receipt or superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Yes! We gladly accept both Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) for eligible chiropractic services.
Many patients use their HSA or FSA to make chiropractic care more affordable while taking advantage of the tax benefits these accounts provide. If you’re unsure whether your plan covers chiropractic care, we’d be happy to answer your questions or provide the documentation you need.

Our Family Membership Program was created to make ongoing chiropractic care simple, affordable, and accessible for the entire family. Instead of paying for every individual visit, your membership provides predictable monthly pricing so you can focus on your family’s health instead of the cost of each appointment.
Memberships are designed to encourage consistency and preventative care while making it easier for spouses and children to receive care together. We believe health is a family affair, and our memberships reflect that philosophy.
Insurance companies often determine what services are covered, how frequently you can be seen, and when your care should end. At Third Coast Chiropractic, we believe those decisions should be based on your health, your goals, and your doctor’s clinical judgment, not on the limitations of an insurance policy.
By operating outside the traditional insurance model, we’re able to spend more time with our patients, personalize every care plan, and focus on helping families achieve long-term wellness rather than simply meeting insurance requirements.
Our goal is to provide transparent pricing, exceptional care, and recommendations based on what’s best for you—not what your insurance company approves.
👉 Learn more about Why Families Choose Third Coast Chiropractic
The cost of chiropractic care depends on your individual needs and the type of care that’s right for you. During your first visit, Dr. Brad will complete a thorough examination, discuss your health goals, and recommend a personalized plan before any ongoing care begins.
We believe in transparent pricing, so you’ll always know your options before making any decisions. For families looking for long-term wellness care, our membership program provides one of the most affordable ways to receive ongoing chiropractic care.
No. We believe chiropractic care should be built on trust, results, and your personal health goals, not long-term contracts. You’re never required to commit to an extended membership to receive care at Third Coast Chiropractic.
For families who are committed to investing in their long-term health, we do offer discounted annual membership options. These memberships provide additional savings while making it easier to prioritize consistent chiropractic care throughout the year.
While we’re driven by results, we also believe that true health is a lifelong commitment. Helping someone overcome pain or recover from an injury is incredibly rewarding, but our ultimate goal is to help you maintain those results, reduce the risk of future injuries, and support healthy movement and proper biomechanics for years to come.
One of our mentors used to say:
“Chiropractic is great at getting sick people well, but what a shame we let them get sick in the first place.”
That philosophy has stayed with us. We believe the best healthcare isn’t just about recovering after something goes wrong, it’s about helping your body function at its best before problems develop. Whether you choose month-to-month care or an annual membership, our mission is to partner with you in building long-term health for you and your family.
Yes. Whether you’re a young athlete, weekend warrior, or competitive athlete, chiropractic care can help your body move more efficiently. Healthy joints, balanced muscles, and proper nervous system function all contribute to better movement, coordination, reaction time, and overall performance.
Our goal isn’t just to help you recover from injuries, it’s to help your body perform at its highest potential so you can continue doing what you love.

While no healthcare provider can guarantee injury prevention, maintaining proper movement, flexibility, joint function, and biomechanics may help reduce unnecessary stress on the body during sports and physical activity.
Regular chiropractic care helps us identify movement restrictions and areas of stress before they become bigger problems. By improving how your body moves and functions, we aim to keep athletes healthier, more resilient, and performing at their best throughout the season.

Many families choose to have their children receive chiropractic care throughout their sports season, not just after an injury occurs. Practices, games, travel, and repetitive movements can place significant stress on a growing athlete’s body.
Routine chiropractic care helps support healthy movement, recovery, and proper biomechanics while allowing us to address small issues before they become larger problems. Our goal is to help young athletes stay healthy, recover well, and continue enjoying the sports they love.

Every sport places unique demands on the body, which is why every evaluation and care plan is personalized to the athlete, their goals, and the specific movements required for their sport.

Recovery is an essential part of athletic performance. Intense practices, competitions, and training sessions place stress on your muscles, joints, and nervous system. Chiropractic care can help support healthy movement and recovery by improving joint mobility and reducing restrictions that may affect how your body functions.
Combined with proper sleep, hydration, nutrition, stretching, and strength training, chiropractic care can be an important part of a well-rounded recovery plan that helps you return to activity feeling your best.

Not at all. In fact, many athletes receive chiropractic care before they’re ever injured. Our philosophy is simple: it’s easier to keep an athlete healthy than it is to help them recover after an injury.
Rather than waiting for pain to develop, many athletes choose chiropractic care to support healthy movement, improve biomechanics, and maintain peak performance throughout the season. We believe the best care is proactive, not reactive, and helping athletes stay healthy is just as important as helping them recover.

Athletes train consistently because they understand that success isn’t built on game day alone. The same is true for their health. Taking care of your body before an injury occurs can help you move better, recover more efficiently, and continue participating in the activities you enjoy.
At Third Coast Chiropractic, we believe it’s always better to maintain a healthy, well-functioning body than to wait until pain or injury forces you to stop doing what you love. Whether you’re preparing for the next season or simply wanting to stay active, our goal is to help you perform at your best today while protecting your health for the future.

Chiropractic care is a healthcare profession focused on helping the body function at its best by improving the health and movement of the spine, joints, muscles, and nervous system. Rather than simply masking symptoms, chiropractic care seeks to identify and address underlying movement restrictions that may be affecting how your body performs.
Because the nervous system controls every organ, muscle, and tissue in the body, optimizing its function can support your body’s natural ability to adapt, heal, and perform at its highest potential.
Chiropractic care is commonly sought for concerns such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, joint pain, sports injuries, pregnancy-related discomfort, and posture concerns. Many families also seek chiropractic care to support healthy movement, nervous system function, and overall wellness.
Every patient is unique, which is why your care begins with a thorough examination to determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your specific concerns and goals.
Most chiropractic adjustments are gentle and comfortable. While every patient experiences care differently, many people report feeling relief, improved movement, or a sense of relaxation after an adjustment.
At Third Coast Chiropractic, every adjustment is tailored to your age, comfort level, and individual needs. Dr. Brad also utilizes the Torque Release Technique (TRT), a gentle, instrument-assisted technique that allows for precise adjustments without the twisting or force that many people associate with chiropractic care.
Our goal is always to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
No. While the spine plays an important role in overall health, chiropractic care can also include evaluating and adjusting other joints throughout the body when appropriate. Depending on your examination findings and individual needs, this may include areas such as the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, or feet.
Our focus is always on restoring healthy movement and improving how your entire body functions—not just your spine.
Absolutely. Many people choose chiropractic care as part of their overall wellness routine rather than waiting until pain develops.
Pain is often one of the last signs that something isn’t functioning properly. Long before discomfort appears, your body may already be compensating for poor movement, muscle imbalances, or joint restrictions. By addressing these issues early, chiropractic care may help support healthy movement, improve biomechanics, and reduce unnecessary stress on your body.
Our philosophy is simple: it’s always easier to maintain health than it is to rebuild it after problems develop.
No. In most cases, you do not need a referral to schedule an appointment with a chiropractor. You can contact our office directly to schedule your first visit.
During your appointment, we’ll perform a thorough consultation and examination to determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate for your condition. If we believe another healthcare provider is better suited to help you, we’ll gladly point you in the right direction.
Your health always comes first. If your examination suggests that chiropractic care isn’t the most appropriate treatment for your condition, we’ll explain our findings and recommend the next best step.
That may include referring you to your primary care physician, an orthopedic specialist, physical therapist, imaging center, or another healthcare provider. Our goal is never simply to provide chiropractic care, it’s to help you receive the care that’s most appropriate for your health and recovery.
We believe healthcare should be personal, honest, and focused on helping families thrive. That’s why we take time to listen to your concerns, perform a thorough examination, explain our findings, and create recommendations based on your goals, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
From newborns and pregnant mothers to athletes and entire families, our mission is to provide gentle, neurologically focused chiropractic care that helps people move better, feel better, and live healthier lives.
Every patient is unique, so there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. The frequency of your care depends on your health history, examination findings, personal goals, and how your body responds to chiropractic care over time.
After completing your examination and discussing your goals, Dr. Brad will provide personalized recommendations based on what he believes is truly necessary to help you achieve the best possible results. As your body improves, those recommendations may change.
Our goal is always to provide the right amount of care, not more and not less, to help you reach your goals, maintain your results, and continue living an active, healthy life.
Many people are familiar with the twisting or “cracking” style of chiropractic adjustments. At Third Coast Chiropractic, Dr. Brad primarily uses the Torque Release Technique (TRT), a gentle, precise, instrument-assisted approach to chiropractic care.
Instead of relying on forceful manual adjustments, TRT uses a specialized instrument to deliver a specific, controlled adjustment to areas of the spine and nervous system. This allows care to be comfortable for patients of all ages, including newborns, children, pregnant mothers, seniors, and individuals who prefer a gentler approach.
The goal remains the same: improve nervous system function, restore healthy movement, and help your body function at its best.

My journey into chiropractic started as a patient. Growing up, I struggled with chronic ear infections and had six sets of ear tubes before I graduated high school. Later, after a football injury left me with a severe shoulder injury, I was told my season, and possibly my football career was over.
A friend’s father, who was a chiropractor, encouraged me to give chiropractic care a try. After just a few visits, I was back on the field. Even more surprising, the chronic ear infections I’d dealt with for years disappeared and never returned.
That experience changed the course of my life. Today, my passion is helping families experience the same kind of hope and transformation that chiropractic gave me.
At Third Coast Chiropractic, we believe healthcare should be personal. That means taking time to listen, performing a thorough examination, explaining our findings, and creating recommendations based on your unique needs, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
We focus on finding the root cause of your concerns whenever possible, while helping your body move and function the way it was designed to. Whether we’re caring for a newborn, an expecting mother, a young athlete, or an entire family, our goal is to provide compassionate, individualized care built on trust and education.
After graduating from chiropractic school, I continued my education because I wanted to confidently care for the populations I’m most passionate about, pregnant mothers, babies, children, and families.
I’ve completed more than 400 hours of postgraduate education in pediatric, pregnancy, and postpartum chiropractic care and am certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). I also utilize the Torque Release Technique (TRT), a gentle, neurologically focused approach that allows me to care for patients of all ages.
Learning never stops, and I’m committed to continually expanding my knowledge so I can provide the highest quality care possible.
Because I truly believe health is a family affair.
When one family member becomes healthier, everyone benefits. Parents have more energy to play with their children. Kids recover more quickly from life’s bumps and bruises. Families spend more time making memories and less time sitting on the sidelines.
One of the greatest joys of my career is caring for multiple generations within the same family and watching children grow up healthy while helping parents continue living active, fulfilling lives.
I believe it’s easier to maintain health than it is to regain it after it’s been lost.
One of my mentors often said:
“Chiropractic is great at getting sick people well, but what a shame we let them get sick in the first place.”
That idea has stayed with me throughout my career. While helping someone recover from pain is incredibly rewarding, my passion is helping people stay healthy before problems develop.
To me, chiropractic isn’t just about feeling better, it’s about moving well, functioning well, and giving your body the best opportunity to thrive throughout every stage of life.
When I’m not caring for patients, you’ll usually find me spending time with my wife and children, enjoying Northern Michigan, hunting, fishing, hiking, watching football, or playing classic video games.
I also enjoy continuing my education and learning new ways to better serve the families who trust me with their care. Whether I’m reading the latest research, taking additional courses, or spending time outdoors with my family, I’m always looking for opportunities to grow, both personally and professionally.
Choosing a chiropractor is a personal decision, and I don’t take that trust lightly.
My commitment is simple: I’ll listen to your concerns, perform a thorough examination, explain my findings honestly, and recommend only the care I believe is in your best interest. If I don’t believe chiropractic care is the right fit for your situation, I’ll tell you and help guide you toward the healthcare professional who can best help you.
My goal isn’t just to help you feel better, it’s to become a trusted partner in helping you and your family live healthier, more active lives.
I hope every patient leaves feeling heard, valued, and confident that they have someone who genuinely cares about their health.
Whether we see you for one visit or care for your family for years to come, my goal is for you to know that you’ll always receive honest recommendations, compassionate care, and treatment that’s centered around your goals, not just your symptoms.
At Third Coast Chiropractic, we believe that better health creates stronger families, and it’s an honor to be part of that journey.
