Back To School!

While it is hard to believe, it is that time again. We must switch gears and prepare for the school year ahead. This means getting our pencils, pens, folder, notebooks, books, and the list goes on. However, with the increasing amount of supplies our kids need, the backpacks they were are getting heavier. Here is some simple and straight forward information to help you get your kids off to school safely.

Key Things to remember when fitting a backpack:

Where to start:

Look at the items your child has been requested to get by the school. Look through these items and determine what is necessary for them to actually carry in their day to day activities. Fill the backpack up with the necessary items and then weigh the backpack. The backpack with the items within it shouldn’t weigh more than 20% of your child body weight. We recommend your child utilize their school lockers. These can significantly reduce the weight they carry all day.

Adjustments to your backpack:

With the weight in the backpack, it is now time to fit the backpack to your child. Start tightening their shoulder straps. You want to tighten them till the backpack fits nicely along the back. The best fit to the body is typically with the lower portion of the backpack is just above the waistline. This will help spread the weight out across the body making for a comfortable fit.

Ready to role:

Your child backpack should be fitting comfortably, allowing them to conquer the school year. While also preventing unnecessary stress on the body. This unnecessary stress on the body can affect your child growth in the future. We recommend that if you are still unsure that you reach out to a professional for help.
